Find Out More...Taylor is giving local councils a budget boost at a time of financial austerity, with its newly introduced bin buy back and rental scheme. Under the scheme, Taylor provides an injection of capital for cash-strapped organisations by buying back waste container fleets and then renting them back to the same organisations, effectively relieving them of need to set aside capital each year to buy new bins or refurbish fleets of existing containers.
"The buy back scheme is a logical step for local authorities, who are under intense pressure to reduce costs in all areas of their operations," said Taylor UK Sales Manager Bob Harris. "A number of councils already fund some of their key activities via rental; however, so far, few have failed to realise that the operation of a waste container fleet provides a similar cost saving opportunity."
In addition to the initial capital returned through the buy back scheme, councils also benefit from additional financial benefits. Taylor takes over asset management of the waste container fleets eliminating maintenance and refurbishment costs for the bin user, ensuring that the fleets are always well maintained and up to date, promoting recycling, at the same time as improving the image of the user organisation.
"The asset management component of our scheme enables us to work more closely with the local authority, or business, to deliver the most customer- specific, cost effective and safe waste and recycling solution," said Bob Harris: "one that has high levels of public engagement leading to improved recycling rates across all property types."
The bin buy back scheme also provides more flexibility for local authorities - and businesses - to quickly scale up or down - their activities with minimum outlay. The number of bins required can be easily adjusted to suit present operations and easily expanded to meet future demands resulting from new recycling initiatives. "We are relieving councils of the problems of capital approval when demands for new and improved containers are made upon them, or when government introduces new recycling legislation that impacts upon local funding," said Bob Harris. "In addition, with the buy back scheme, we can always ensure that councils and other organisations have the most appropriate waste container solutions to suit all types of conurbations. We realise that a one- size- fits- all strategy does not work; that's why we intend to work with councils individually, negotiating contracts that reflect specific local needs."
